good camera good value September 2, 2010 Peter Macone (White Mountains, New Hampshire) I did a lot of research before buying this camera. As far as point and shoots go it goes beyond.
Picture quality is pretty good. It could be a little bit better, if you want to print any low light pictures you may be be a little bit disappointed in anything larger than 5x8.
The functions are great and easy to use !
The only thing that is tough is using the manual settings, but you shouldn't need to too much because there are a lot of great settings built in.
Camera took a couple drops and the end piece popped off, real problem w/ this was that the hook, for the string, is on that piece and now I have no way of attaching a new one.
I feel like the structure is slightly lacking.
Flash is good
Shutters switch is quick .
Battery life is very good, and it charges quickly.
It is tough to get a good shot of anyone in motion in low light. BUT that said the SUNSET setting is unreal! It allows me to get pictures of sunsets that blow people away.
In the Auto setting the camera does a good job keeping up w/ people in motion, as long as light is good. You can take most pictures in the Auto setting.
LOVE this camera! August 6, 2010 TerriC I had this same camera and lost it. I was so happy I found one on Amazon. I have the big Canon Rebel, which I love, but it is hard carrying it around everywhere. This Canon Powershot SD790, is amazing! The clarity of the pictures, the functions, settings etc. I feel like I learn something new about the camera everyday! I may buy an extra one just incase I ever lose this one!
smart camera August 1, 2010 Vera J. Morgan The camera is as good as you want it to be. Allow yourself time to learn. It's great and get's greater as you learn more. I know I will enjoy it more and more as time goes on.
dont bother July 27, 2010 P. Caron I previously owned a sd 630, and loved it, i still use it as a matter of fact. iv dropped it and beat it up for 4 years and have never had a problem and still get great pictures. when i decided to buy a new camera i looked at another powershot and settled on this one. iv had it less than a year, and im very dissapoined with it. the picture quality is so so, for 10 MP they are not what they should be and compared to my 6 megapixle 630 the pictures are rubbish.
other problems i have had with this camera are,
1. unresponsive buttons that dont always do what i want them to do.
2. terrible design. the screws keep falling out of it i only have two left holding the camera together
3. focus is not great with a lot of my pictures coming out blurred or with a lot of noise
4. sometimes the camera takes forever to actualy focus and by the time it does what i wanted to take a picture of is gone.
5. it also takes some getting used to with more features then are actually nessessary and figuring out what does what when and where can take a minute.
6. one of my biggest problems with this camera is that the battery pack size is different from all other sd models that i have used. generaly if i run out of juice i can plug my battery into one of my friends sd chargers or use their battery. but not with this model, very inconvenient, especialy if you forget your charger on a trip.
7. iv had this happen a few times, the camera will shut off saying that the battery needs to be recharged, even if you just charged it. it will turn back on and work but its annoying when your about to take a picture and the camera dies on you.
good luck with this thing...
Great Camera!! Love it. July 13, 2010 pepper I love this camera. This is my 2nd Canon Powershot with the 3" display and I absolutely love it. I'm spoiled with such a big display screen, I wouldn't have anything less now. It takes great pictures and the battery life is awesome. I carry it around with me everywhere!
