Album Description The landmark musical's first-ever Broadway revival! The curtain rang down on Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific in 1954 after five years of extraordinary acclaim and countless awards including nine Tonys and a Pulitzer. Based on James Michener's Pulitzer Prize winning book Tales of the South Pacific, the musical is set on a tropical island during World War II and tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples - U.S. Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Marine Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat - and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of the war and by their own prejudices. Considered by many the finest musical ever written, the score's songs include such musical theater classics as "Some Enchanted Evening," "Younger Than Springtime," "Bali Ha'i," "There is Nothin' Like a Dame" and "A Wonderful Guy."

Simply the Best! September 2, 2010 H. F. Miglino (Old Bridge, New jersey United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Me and my wife saw one of the last performances at Lincon Center and it is the best play we ever saw. We saw Chorus Line (a few times), West Side Story, Les Mis, Phantom, Cats, etc. but to us this is the best. The next week we bought the CD from the show and found the CD to be as great as the show. I will not high brow this here, I am no singing expert but the CD is great. If you loved the show you will love the CD, you will not be disappointed by the singing. If the play is ever in your area make it your business to see it, if not buy the CD the next best thing to being there!
South Pacific review August 20, 2010 Donna K. Groskopf (Camano Island, WA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I saw this version last night on PBS, Live from Lincoln Center, "South Pacific". I didn't think the orchestra was quite up to par, but the singers sure were. Kelli O'Hara as Nellie Forbush was fabulous, she put her whole heart and soul into her role. Paulo Szot as Emile Debeque was about the best Emile I've ever seen and I've seen all the different versions out there. The whole musical was done quite well even though done on a stage. I'm used to seeing the movie versions, but this one on stage was just great. I can see why each of these singers/actors were chosen to play their parts. They seemed to fit.
My Fault! August 16, 2010 John Maquar My Fault! The service was good, the item is good. I just did not read close enough, I thought it was a DVD.....but the music is still very good.
Thank you

Saw the show in New York recently--the CD is a wonderful reminder and the quality of the recordings is excellent. If you like the songs from South Pacific you will love this CD.
