good content but "flawed" digital version July 8, 2010 Beribel (Asia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been trying the kindle subscription for almost 2 weeks now and so far every single edition has at least one article that is either capital/lower case inverted or with words not separated properly for the whole article. Really disappointed with the layout of the digital version and since it has been being around for quite some time now and they still haven't sorted that out is just wrong.
Just not good enough ... June 24, 2010 KjP (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having no laptop in Spain and preferring the UK edition to the truncated international print version, I buy the Kindle version of The Times here. But, I am at a loss to understand why it is so shabby. The Times has spent a fortune creating and trumpeting its new website so that it can charge for content (which is fair enough) but it sends a vastly inferior product to paying Kindle customers ... I could live with no pictures; I could live with no supplements (although I am not sure why I should) but, oh! those terrible formatting errors... it is virtually unreadable. Come on, The Times and Kindle - get your act together. Two world class products deserve better of each other.
why is the ipad version cheaper? June 7, 2010 Lisa Hall 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been subscribing to the times on the kindle for a week and am happy with the product itself but can't believe that the ipad version is only £9.99 (and that obviously includes pictures etc). I contacted the times and asked why kindle users are being asked to pay more than double that price and I was told that they "were not able to disclose that information"! I wont be continuing my subscription
The news, pure and simple. May 26, 2010 bandcandy (UK) I've had a free trial of this as well as the other UK papers and am continuing with the Times. Now I'm used to it arriving silently and efficiently onto my kindle in time for me to peruse the paper over breakfast, I must say I would find it hard to give up. I can't say I miss having pictures at all and I actively enjoy being able to read the news without the usual litter of adverts that fill traditional newspapers. Even online there are so many adverts to distract that I sometimes find it hard to follow the thread of topics which actually interesting me. Basically the kindle format gives me what I want: the news, pure and simple.
Good news, but too late. April 21, 2010 Marit Mathisen I've never been interested in news, but when my father and I drove to England due to the volcnaic ash we figured that The Times would be a nice way to stay up to date.
I'm still not done with the 14-day trial, but I am probably stopping it before it's done. The problem is that in the morning I do not get the paper before I have to go to school. I don't even get it before school starts.
Another problem I find is that tables and such are included, but only the text, so what you see is a listing without punctuatin, making it impossible to know exactly what you are reading.
On the positive side The Times has really good writers, making the news easy to comprehend and interesting to read. If I could get the paper earlier in the morning I would consider subscribing, and if they also added the possibility of tables and black-and-white pictures or illustrations.
