Amazon.com Review Amazon Best of the Month, May 2008: Stephenie Meyer, creator of the phenomenal teen-vamp Twilight series, takes paranormal romance into alien territory in her first adult novel. Those wary of sci-fi or teen angst will be pleasantly surprised by this mature and imaginative thriller, propelled by equal parts action and emotion. A species of altruistic parasites has peacefully assumed control of the minds and bodies of most humans, but feisty Melanie Stryder won't surrender her mind to the alien soul called Wanderer. Overwhelmed by Melanie's memories of fellow resistor Jared, Wanderer yields to her body's longing and sets off into the desert to find him. Likely the first love triangle involving just two bodies, it's unabashedly romantic, and the characters (human and alien) genuinely endearing. Readers intrigued by this familiar-yet-alien world will gleefully note that the story's end leaves the door open for a sequel--or another series. --Mari Malcolm
Product Description The author of the Twilight series of # 1 bestsellers delivers her brilliant first novel for adults: a gripping story of love and betrayal in a future with the fate of humanity at stake.
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
Featuring what may be the first love triangle involving only two bodies, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel that will bring a vast new readership to one of the most compelling writers of our time.

Better than Twilight March 11, 2010 J. TreVino (Anaheim, CA) I'm a HUGE Twilight fan but at many times throughout the series I would get frustrated & bored with the characters. This is not the case the The Host. I absolutely LOVED this book. I'm not a Sci-Fi reader but this man me feel like now I was & I really enjoy it. I find the characters in this book to be more mature & well rounded. I still think Stephanie is a horrible writter but a wonderful storyteller. I cannot wait for book 2 of this series.
Great Book! March 10, 2010 D. Sibley (Vermont) Stephanie Meyer is amazing!! My husband and I both loved this book! It's very unusual for us to both love the same author, but we love everything she has written; I would highly recommend this book as well as the Twighlight Saga!
Wonderful Book! March 10, 2010 A. Gerow This book was infinitely better than the vampire stuff. If you hated Twilight don't shy away from this one. It is first class all the way! Very entertaining. I was sorry when it was over. =)
The Host March 7, 2010 barwoods (Georgia) I really loved this book. I have read it three times and will read a few more times I know. This is actually the second copy I have had. My sister gave me the first copy for Christmas and I loaned it out at work and was passed around to so many people to read that I lost count of who had it. Everyone who read it loved it. These are the ones I loaned my Twilight books to and liked it just as much. Thank you Barbara
I am LOVING this book! March 5, 2010 Divo Denove I am about 60% through with this book and am LOVING it! My favorite books are those which I can't wait to get in bed at night to read - so much so that I will forgo watching television shows to read. I don't get this passionate over reading unless a book is really captivating and usually I don't want these types of books to end. I feel this way about The Host, even more so than Meyer's other books (Twilight series)!
